E-MAIL: Mary J. Corbitt, M.J.CORBITT@larc.nasa.gov. NASA Langley
Research Center (LaRC) plans to issue NASA Research Announcement, (NRA)
98 LaRC-8, on or about August 17, 1998, for the development of advanced
information technology concepts for aeronautics and space
transportation systems. The NRA will solicit innovative, break through
information technologies that safely reduce the cost of aeronautics
and space transportation systems while either maintaining or improving
efficiency given projected capacity and payload increases. The
objective of the NRA will be to stimulate interested parties to propose
research and development in the following technical areas: (1)
analytical tools and environments for design; (2) integrated
instrumentation and testing systems; (3) intelligent system controls
and operations; (4) advanced computing, networks, and storage; and (5)
software integrity, productivity, and security. The NRA will focus on
high-risk, high-payoff technologies. Participation in this NRA is open
to all individuals and categories of domestic organizations, including
industry, non-profit organizations, educational institutions and
government agencies. Proposals submitted by teams of organizations are
also welcome. Technical evaluations will be conducted by information
technology specialists from Langley and Ames Research Centers.
Proposals for up to three years of research and development effort will
be solicited. Approximately $1.8M ($600K per year) will be available
over the three year period of fiscal year 1999 through fiscal year 2001
to fund this work. Hard Copies of the NRA detailing specific proposal
requirements and evaluation criteria may be obtained via the World Wide
Web at the following URL:

tml/ or by contacting P. W. Goode IV after August 17, 1998, at Mail
Stop 152D, NASA Langley Research Center, Hampton, VA 23681-2199,
(E-mail: p.w.goode@larc.nasa.gov; telephone: 757-864-6685). This NRA
will be open for a period of 90 days from the date of issuance. In
responding, referto NRA 98-LaRC-8. Prospective offerors shall notify
this office of their intent to submit an offer. It is the offeror's
responsibility to monitor this site and/or the CBD for the release of
the NRA and amendments (if any). Potential offerors will be responsible
for downloading their own copy of the NRA and amendments (if any).
