66 -- NEUTRON DETECTORS SOL N65236-98-R-0001 DUE 072298 POC Linda Lunn, Code 1113LL, (843) 974-5925, Contracting Officer, Paulette Dillard E-MAIL: SPAWARSYSCEN Charleston, lunnl@spawar.navy.mil. This sources sought announcement is issued for the purpose of identifying sources for commercial-off-the-self (COTS) neutron detectors interested in manufacturing a neutron probe detector capable of interfacing with the current configured Navy Multifunction RADIAC (MFR). The existing MFR is capable of detecting gamma, and is capable, via an external interface, of detecting/measuring gamma, beta, alpha, neutron, and X-ray radiation. Interested manufacturers would develop both the neutron interface and the detector to be compatible with the existing Government furnished MFR and Automated RADIAC Calibration and Diagnostic Equipment System (ARCADES) specification requirements. The ARCADES specification will provide the specific interfacing protocols (hardware and software) needed to develop the neutron probe. The neutron probe (interface and detector) is required to be a ruggedized portable lightweight hand held instrument which provides for the detection of neutron radiation and indicates the reading through the MFR display. This announcement is only an expression of interest. Future requirements are anticipated and procurement strategy will be developed based upon the response received regarding this announcement. The neutron probe specification is currently under development. Point of contact SPAWARSYSCEN Charleston for technical information is Shawn Boykin (Code 321SB) at (843) 974-4806. The mailing address is SPAWARSYSCEN Charleston, P.O. Box 190022, North Charleston, SC 29419-9022, ATTN: Code 321SB (to arrive no later than 3 weeks from posing date). Posted 07/15/98 (D-SN223612).
