The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention intends to negotiate on
a sole source basis with Abt Associates, Inc. a requirement for a five
year contract to continue CFS surveillance in Sedgwick County, KS begun
by Abt, conduct CFS surveillance in adolescent populations in Seattle,
Denver, and Louisville, and conduct additional CFS cluster
investigations as necessary. Abt Associates is the Contractor who
designed and conducted the base-line cross-sectional survey for
fatiguing illness in the Sedgwick County populations and is currently
conducting a follow-up round of selected subject's 12 months
post-enrollment. Abt participated actively in study design, developed
survey tactics and study instruments, and has made initial contacts
with appropriate authorities in Seattle, Denver, and Louisville. Abt is
the only known Contractor with the unique experience required in the
areas of longitudinal studies of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome in defined
