Aerial survey project will begin 8/98 and end on or around 7/99. NOAA anticipates chartering aircraft for an estimated 200 hours of flight time. Charter service will be provided for surveys surrounding San Clemente Island, California. Charter plane must be powered by twin engines; be capable of 1,000 feet altitude while carrying four (4) passengers and approx. 150 lbs. of equipment; be a high-wing aircraft outfitted with clear bubble windows through which marine mammal observers may view during surveys; possess an observation port in belly or floor of the aircraft through which unobstructed viewing of the ocean is permitted; have four seats fore of the belly port; have minimum 5.5 hours flight time; possess a function GPS unit and RS232 computer output; be capable of 95 knots airspeed for 4-5 hour period; and have a fully functioning intercom system with a minimum of four phono-type headsets.
