COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF JULY 8,1998 PSA#2132COMMERCIAL TECHNOLOGY MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES FOR MILITARY SYSTEMS
WORKSHOP The Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) has appointed a group
to address the growing issues associated with the use of commercial
off-the-shelf (COTS) products. The COTS Steering Board (CSB) was
chartered to enhance NAVSEA's ability to rapidly introduce and support
COTS products in the Fleet. One of the products from the CSB effort
will be a workshop entitled "Commercial Technology Management
Strategies for Military Systems." The "Commercial Technology Management
Strategies for Military Systems" workshop focus is on the important
issues impacting the Navy and its ability to support and rapidly
introduce COTS products into the Fleet. Utilization of COTS products is
permeating the market place and our weapons systems by way of the
latest market driven technology. In order to survive the transition
from military specification to commercial, the Navy must maximize the
opportunities and minimize the risks associated with this change. This
workshop will be co-sponsored by SOLE -- The International Society of
Logistics and will be held at the Waterside Marriott in Norfolk,
Virginia on 4-5 August 1998. For more information please contact the
workshop co-chairs Mr. Brian Blackwell, Naval Surface Warfare Center
