L. Connolly, sconnolly@mail.arc.nasa.gov. THIS NOTICE CONSTITUTES
AMENDMENT NO.1 TO THE COMBINED SYNOPSIS/RFQ FOR ULTRA-HIGH TEMPERATURE
CERAMICS CONTINUOUS FIBER REINFORCED CERAMIC CHARACTERIZATION.
Companies shall acknowledge all amendment(s) in their quote. This
notice serves as the official amendment to subject synopsis/RFQ and a
written amendment will not be issued. The purpose of this amendment is
to provide additional information to all interested quoters as a
result of questions submitted: Question: Will single pin loading of
tensile samples be considered? Answer: No. The task description is
clear in requiring the three point tensile sample configuration.
Question: If a single pin loaded tensile sample design is not
acceptable, can I be faxed a copy of the three pin tensile sample
configuration? Answer: An accessible example was listed in the task
description. (i.e., "Tensile and Creep Testing of Continuous
Fiber-Reinforced Ceramic Composites," CIAC Newsletter Vol. 2, No. 3,
June 1992). Question: Please specify test specimen geometry and test
method. Answer: Test specimen geometry and test method is described in
the task description. Question: Can flags be attached to test
specimens? Answer: No. Question: Can thermocouples be attached to test
specimens? Answer: No. Question: Are there any special
considerations/requirements for grip material other than resistance to
elevated temperatures? Answer: No. Question: Can grips be actively
cooled? Answer: No. Question: Please clarify the elevated test
temperature. We assume it is 2190 degrees F. Answer: That is corrected.
The due date for receipt of offers is July 6, 1998 4:30 P.M. PDST.
