AVAILABILITY OF INITIAL RELEASE 98-1 OF DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY STANDARDS GUIDANCE The Department of the Navy's Chief Information Officer announces availability of Initial Release 98-1 of the Department's Information Technology Standards Guidance (ITSG) Document. The primary goal of the ITSG is to promote interoperability and supportability of information technology systems throughout the Department of the Navy (DON). The ITSG relies upon open standards and enables users or program managers to make product decisions based on those standards. This emphasis on standards rather than products supports acquisition alternatives and provides assurance that selected products will interoperate. Where necessary, in limited instances, the document highlights "endorsed" or "not recommended" products and provides supporting rationale. The ITSG is available for download from the DON CIO web site at http://www.doncio.navy.mil. Electronic comments are invited through 20 July 1998.
