COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF JUNE 5,1998 PSA#2110Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), Contracts Management
Office (CMO), 3701 N. Fairfax Dr., Arlington, VA 22203-1714 A -- FIBER OPTIC NETWORK RESEARCH POC Douglas M. Pollock, DARPA/CMD,
Fax (703) 696-2208 The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency
(DARPA) intends to negotiate with Bell Atlantic Network Services, Inc.,
Washington, DC, to extend its present contract to provide an
experimental ATM/SONET/WDM network at 20 Gb/s linking DARPA, Defense
Information Systems Agency (DISA), Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA),
Naval Research Laboratory (NRL), National Security Agency (NSA), and
National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). This network will
be used to study all-optical WDM switching, transport, self-protection
connection, and reconfiguration of network topology. DARPA believes
that contracting without providing for full and open competition is
justified in accordance with FAR 6.302-1 in order to acquire highly
specialized services deemed available only from the original source
without duplicating costs or incurring unacceptable delays. Duration of
this effort will be 24 months. All responsible sources may submit a
proposal or capability statement which shall be considered by DARPA.
