COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF JUNE 3,1998 PSA#2108Coastal Systems Station Dahlgren Division, 6703 W. Highway 98, Panama
City, FL A -- MINE COUNTERMEASURE SENSOR DATA WORKSHOP SOL N61331-98-Q-JM04 DUE

Dreger, Contracting Officer, (850)234-4863 The Office of Naval Research
has begun a multiyear effort to archive, catalog, and disseminate a
wide variety of high resolution mine countermeasure sensor data. The
objective is to establish the largest and most comprehensive collection
of mine warfare sensor data that it is readily available via FTP or
web-based servers to general users for exploitation of new signal
processing algorithms, target signature feature extraction, and
environmental information, such as clutter statistics. It is hoped that
by disseminating these data sets improved methodologies for detection,
classification, and identification of mines may be realized. This
database will form a solid reference point for future research in
sensor and processing technology and will provide a technical
foundation, which may lead to future funding opportunities for the
investigators. Extensive ground truth and environmental information
will also be included to maximize the utility of the data. The types of
sensor data will likely include data from both operational and
developmental systems, including acoustic, magnetic, and
electro-optical systems. It is hoped that the database will be flexible
enough to include unanticipated sensor data as well. Stave data
(unprocessed data) will have the highest priority for inclusion into
the database, as it provides the maximum flexibility to develop new,
optimal signal processing algorithms. It is anticipated that both an
unclassified and a classified version of the database will be made
available. An unclassified workshop to define the data requirements
(content, ground truth, environmental, format, etc.) and to solicit
data for inclusion in the database in the near future will be hosted by
the Coastal Systems Station, Panama City, FL on October 26 -- 27, 1998.
We seek a wide representation of industrial, academic, and Navy
participants in this two day workshop. Some travel costs may be
defrayed by the workshop organizers, depending upon the number of
interested participants. Selected workshop attendees may be asked to
serve on the Naval Sensor Database advisory committee to assist the
Office of Naval Research in reviewing and accepting data for inclusion
in the database in the future. If you are interested in being
considered as a workshop participant, please contact Lisa Tubridy at
850-235-5928 (tubridy_lisa@ccmail.ncsc.navy.mil) by September 15, 1998.
