U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) will be
negotiating on a sole source basis with MTS Systems Corporation for
this effort. This contract will design and procure simulation hardware
and software to be installed in the Physical Simulation Laboratory.
The contract will upgrade the computing hardware on a number of
platforms to support intense real-time data flow. A runtime data
acquisition system will be designed and installed. A scenario
controller will enable war-gaming and other exercises to be conducted
on a virtual proving ground. Visual system hardware will be provided
and integrated. Displays will be motion-hardened and the scenes
correlated with the dynamic battlefield environment. The Turret Motion
Base Simulator (TMBS) actuator and hydraulic manifolds will be
re-designed. A suite of subsystem and system level tests will be
designed and conducted. Dynamics model and vision system software will
be integrated into the system. The Ride Motion Simulator (RMS) and
TMBS will be tuned and calibrated. The audio, dynamics, vision, and
motion subsystems will be compensated to adjust for computational and
sonic delays in the simulation. Demonstrations using the ride and
turret motion bases will be conducted. The RMS will be configured for
gunner and driver combat exercises. The TMBS will be configured for
gunner exercises. Both will be networked in the Distributed Interactive
Simulation Network. Training will be provided for the operation of the
simulators. The hardware and software will be documented through
drawings, manuals, and reports. See numbered Notes 22 and 26. (0139) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0002 19980522\A-0002.SOL)
