A HIGHLY PRESCION MACHINED (X-38 CREW RETURN VEHICLE) ALUMINUM LONGERON THAT IS 86 INCH LONG, 24 INCH WIDE, AND 4 INCH THICK. NASA WILL PROVIDE STOCK MATERIAL. VENDOR MUST HAVE 5TH AXIS CAPABILITY AND ABILITY TO HOLD A MAX OF .005 TOLERANCE. VENDOR WILL BE REQUIRED TO PROOF MACHINE A BUTTER BOARD FIRST ARTICLE AND SUBMIT THE INSPECTION RESULTS TO NASA FOR APPOVAL PRIOR TO MACHINING THE FINAL ARTICLE. This procurement is being conducted under the Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAP). The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR PART 12. This procurement is a total small business set-aside. See Note 1. The SIC Code and Size Standard are 3728 and 1000 emp.respectively, The DPAS Rating for this procurement is DO-C9. The anticipated release date of RFQ 9-BE13-26-8-29P is on or about May 12, 1998 with an anticipated quote due date of 5 working days after release of the RFQ. All qualified responsible sources may submit a quote which shall be considered by the agency. An ombudsman has been appointed -- See Internet Note "B". The solicitation to this procurement will be available over the Internet. Drawings will be made available as described in the RFQ.
