NASA/LaRC plans to issue a Request for Offer (RFO) for IM7/LaRC PETI-5 (5000 g/mol) Prepreg: The prepreg shall be IM7 carbon fiber impregnated with LaRC PETI-5 (5000 g/mol) poly(amide acid) solution [a polyimide precursor] and made into a 24 -wide tape with all fibers oriented in the same direction (unitape). This unidirectional prepreg shall have a fiber areal weight of 145 grams per meter squared (145 g/m2), a resin content of 35 1 2 percent, a volatile content of 22 1 2 percent, minimum fiber crossovers, minimum tape splits, excellent fiber wet-out, and good resin distribution across the width. The quantity is 400 libs with a required delivery period of 30 days. NASA/LaRC intends to purchase the items from Cytec Fiberite Inc., under the statutory authority of 10 U.S.C.2304(c)(1). No alternate sources known at this time. Available from one responsible source. The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12. An Ombudsman has been appointed. See Internet Note "B". Interested firmshave 15 days from the publication of this synopsis to submit in writing to the identified point of contact, their qualifications/capabilities. Such qualifications/capabilities will be used solely for the purpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis. Responses received after the 15 days or without the required information will be considered nonresponsive to the synopsis and will not be considered. A determination by the Government to not compete this proposed effort on a full and open competitive basis, based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government.
