Space and Naval Warfare System Center, Charleston is soliciting
technical information from potential sources of directional microphones
suitable for outdoor use in rugged conditions, including high humidity;
frequent salt-water spray; and constant weather exposure. Information
is requested to study possible application for shipboard monitoring of
aircraft engine noises. Directional microphone assemblies
traditionally include parabolic reflectors, shotgun microphones, or
other digitally-processed microphone arrays, but other innovative
approaches will also be studied. Desire information as to microphone
sensitivity, overall assembly gain, and directional pattern in the
range of normal hearing frequencies. There is no firm procurement
requirement for these microphones at this time. If a firm procurement
requirement develops for these microphones at some future time, a
fully-competitive solicitation may be issued for an indefinite
delivery, indefinite quantity type contract with Firm-Fixed-Price
delivery orders, using procurement procedures for commercial,
non-developmental items. This request is for technical information only
to enable government engineers to better understand the equipment and
level of technology currently available in commercial systems.
