The Weapons and Materials Research Directorate of the US Army Research Laboratory will provide one M198 Automated Howitzer Fire Control System to the XVIIIth Airborne Corps for evaluation and development of tactics, techniques and procedures in preparation for their involvement in the Rapid Force Projection Initiative studies at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky. The contractor shall provide engineering and maintenance support to the ARL's M198 Automated Howitzer Fire control system during the user testing and evaluation by the XVIIIth Airborne Corps. The contractor shall provide support in check-out and preparation of the system prior to shipment to Ft. Bragg, North Carolina field support for the training period at Ft. Bragg and maintenance support during the evaluation period. The period of performance will be for 4 months from date of award. It is the intent of the Government to award a contract on a sole source basis to Allied Signal, Testerboro, New Jersey pursuant to FAR 6.302-1. The proposed contract action is for supplies or services for which the Government intends to solicit and negotiate with only one source under authority of FAR 6.302. Interested persons may identify their interest and capability to respond to the requirement or submit proposals. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals. However, all proposals received within fifteen (15) days after date of publication of this synopsis will be considered by the Government. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed contract based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government.
