This is a request for comment (RFC) and information related to the development of a pilot data management project associated with the Ecological Synthesis Team of the National Water Quality Assessment Program (NAWQA) of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). Desired products of the pilot effort include a transactional database for NAWQA ecological data, a data warehouse for this ecological data, and web-enabled analytical capabilities for using the data warehouse. The RFC is available via Internet at the following address: http://www.usgs.gov/contracts. Vendors are invited to provide comments on the draft statement of work as well as estimates of the costs associated with performing the work. Cost estimates should be broken down by section (e.g., B.1, B.2, etc). Cost information will be used by the Government as a budgeting tool in prioritizing the acquisition of the work to be performed. Technical comments received as a result of this review may be incorporated into the final statement of work and related information. This RFC is not a formal solicitation and NO contract will result from this synopsis. Any subsequent solicitation will be synopsized prior to its release. The Government will not pay for information provided in response to this synopsis. All comments and cost information should be submitted to the Contracting Officer by COB on May 15, 1998. (0110)
