The Corporation for National Service plans to support up to 14 National Service Fellowships beginning in September of 1998 and ending in June 1999. The Fellowships will be in the form of a contract, made directly to individuals. The basic contract will be $25,000, which includes payments of $2,500 per month for a nine-month period and at the option of the Corporation for National Service, a final completion award of $2,500. In addition, limited funds for direct costs associated with the Fellowship will be made available to each Fellow. Potential Fellows must submit a proposal on a significant issue they would address related to the Corporation's business and programs or to the field of service and specify the outcomes that will result from their efforts. Fellowships are full-time and assignments and will be carried out where the Corporation (or possibly State Commissions) maintains offices and can provide space and management support. Along with producing the outcomes specified in their proposal, Fellows will serve on a team of Fellowship award recipients to assess progress, consider synergies among projects, and for purposes of individual development. Attendance at three Fellowship events in Washington, DC (an orientation, mid-course event, and final meeting) is mandatory. Expenses for these events will be covered directly by the Corporation for National Service. Fellowship candidates must be citizens or permanent resident aliens of the United States.
