The National Institute on Drug Abuse is soliciting proposals from qualified organizations having the in-house capability to perform experiments in baboons to assess abuse potential of drugs. The general purpose of this contract is to obtain data relating to abuse potential of drugs by means of drug self-administration in laboratory primates via both intravenous and oral routes of administration. Specifically, the contractor will be asked to focus upon generating data pertaining to relative abuse potential of compounds within and between drug classes. The data generated by this contract may be provided to governmental agencies for use in determining abuse potential of compounds as well as in drug scheduling purposes under the Controlled Substances Act of 1970 (PL 91-513). NIDA anticipates awarding a five-year contract with five 1-year options. Following proposal submission and the initial review process, offerors comprising the competitive range may be requested to provide additional documentation to the Contracting Officer. Response to the RFP will be due on or about June 8, 1998. Any responsible offeror may submit a proposal which will be considered by the Government.
