Keith D. Hutto, keith.d.hutto1@jsc.nasa.gov. This is a request for
information and market survey of potential sources. The Johnson Space
Center (JSC) is in the process of designing and building a full scale
proof-of-concept test article featuring the multi-layer inflatable
shell. If successful, this concept may be used as part of a large
inflatable habitable space module. NASA/Johnson Space Center (JSC) is
hereby soliciting information and attempting to identify potential
sources for the TransHab Bladder Assembly. This bladder assembly
functions as the gas barrier layer of a multi-layer shell. The bladder
assembly is comprised of multiply reinforced polymer films (each
having a surface area of approximately 2400 sq. ft) separated by
polyester bleeder cloth layers. Requirements for the thin reinforced
films include low permeability, low density, and low out-gassing
properties, yet have high tear and puncture resistance. The current
design of each layer is a .0028 inch thick layer of Combitherm polymer
film reinforced with a very light kevlar fabric. Each layer will be
constructed from gores cut out from the reinforced film and heat sealed
together. The multiple layers of film will be heat sealed together at
both ends to form a multi-bladder assembly. Technical questions should
be directed to: Shalini Gupta at 281-483-7468, if no answer call
281-333-7569. Procurement related questions should be directed to:
Keith D. Hutto at 281-483-4165. No solicitation exists; therefore, do
not request a copy of the solicitation. When a solicitation is released
it will be synopsized in the CBD and on the NASA Acquisition Internet
Service. It is the potential offerors responsibility to monitor these
cites for the release of any solicitation or synopsis. Vendors having
the capabilities necessary to meet or exceed the stated requirements
are invited to submit appropriate documentation or literature that will
include specialized capabilities to meet the above requirement. To aid
in this research your response should include the following: name and
address of firm, size of business; average annual revenue for past 3
years and number of employees; ownership; whether they are large,
small, small disadvantaged 8 (a), and or woman owned; number of years
in business This synopsis is for engineering estimate information and
planning purposes and is not to be construed as a commitment by the
Government nor will the Government pay for information solicited.
Respondents will not be notified of the results of the evaluation.
Respondents deemed fully qualified will be considered in any resultant
solicitation for the requirement. The Government reserves the right to
consider a small business or 8(a) set-aside based on responses hereto.
All responses shall be submitted to Shalini Gupta, NASA/JSC, Mail
