The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has a request for one (1) universal, heavy-duty microtome (Lecia model SM2500 E or equal), one (1) baseplate for SM 2500E (Lecia Serial #14038309267 or equal), one (1) knife holder for SM2500 (Lecia Serial #14038311719 or equal), and five (5), 16cm, 50 degree cutting angle knives (Lecia Serial #14021611740 or equal). The microtome shall have the following specifications: section thickness range from 1-999 micrometers; capability of having a separate control panel placed on either side of the instrument for convenient use; three (3) preselectable modes of operation; adjustable section window; specimen holders with XY orientation + or -- 4.8 degrees; 70 mm travel in vertical knife movement with 2 speed motor control for knife positioning; knife retraction adjustable from 0-999 micrometers in return stroke; a cutting speed and return speed adjustable from 0.1 up to 100 mm/s continuously and independent from each other; capability of cutting a wide range of sample sizes and shapes up to 25 x 20 x 7 cm; ultramilling attachment and liquid nitrogen or carbon dioxide freezing attachment available.
