Abuse (NIDA) is seeking information in the form of capability
statements from interested organizations concerning the following: The
National Institute on Drug Abuse recognizes the efforts of various
entertainment industry organizations and individuals to accurately
depict the effects and consequences of drug abuse using science-based
information. Such depictions have an important role in educating the
American public about accurate research findings on various drug abuse
issues and in dispelling myths and misperceptions that individuals
might have about drug abuse. As part of its legislative mandate to
disseminate its research findings to the public, NIDA continues to
promote such activities and assists in these efforts to develop and
disseminate accurate depictions of drug abuse issues through the
entertainment industry . Accurate depiction of drug abuse issues in
various products developed by the entertainment industry has three
components. These are: raising awarenessof the need to depict drug
abuse issues in a realistic manner; providing sound research-based
scientific information on a wide range of drug abuse topics; and
encouraging realistic portrayal of drug abuse and its consequences.
Specifically, the goals of this project include: (1) communicating on
a regular basis with existing entertainment industry entities,
providing scientific information about drug abuse; (2) increasing the
data base for distribution of science-based drug abuse information
products within the various entertainment industries, including
entertainment companies based in California, Florida, New York and
elsewhere in the United States; and (3) continually updating and
broadening contacts and presentations to key entertainment industry
leaders. Interested organizations must be able to: develop and conduct
entertainment industry briefings; organize, in partnership with NIDA,
the annual recognition awards; increase an entertainment industry
database to 5000 from its present 2500; communicate with writers and
producers of television programming and feature films and provide
technical assistance or referral to the creative community, especially
in script development; update and distribute a "depiction description"
publication; prepare press releases targeted at the entertainment
industry trade press; develop, publish and distribute a newsletter
targeted to the entertainment industry audience; and develop, publish
and distribute an infoletter targeted to the Creative Professional
Network and industry volunteers. Interested organizations must be able
to demonstrate, in any capability statements submitted, extensive
experience with and ability to perform the above tasks and especially
demonstrate existing, established contacts within the entertainment
industry. This is not a request for proposals. This notice is for
information purposes only and does not commit the Government to any
contractual agreement. Interested organizations submitting a capability
statement in response to this sources sought are required to identify
their size status. Written capability statements must be submitted no
