The United States Postal Service is seeking professional engineering firms to prepare plans and specifications for the upgrade of the electrical and HVAC systems at the Boston General Mail Facility (GMF)located at 25 Dorchester Avenue in Boston, MA. The scope of work is the replacement/upgrade of the electrical switch gear/primary distribution feeds and the replacement/upgrade of the air handlers and air distribution systems. The Boston GMF is approximately 1.2 million square feet, and the estimated construction cost for the electrical phase of this project between $3-$4 million, and estimate construction cost for the mechanical phase is between $4-$5 million. Interested firms which possess the qualifications to perform the services described above are invited to submit a completed SF255 "Architect-Engineerand Related Services Questionnaire", and a completed SF254 "Architect-Engineer for Specific Project" no later than Friday, April 24, 1998, 4:00pm EST to the office noted above. Selection criteria will be conducted with the combined use of SF254 and SF255, and the staffing composition of the office which the work will be performed. Firms (with the use of their consultants) must have on their staffing the following registered disciplines, all who must be licensed in the state of MA: Mechanical Engineers and Electrical Engineers. Consideration will be given to interested firms according to the following order of preference: 1)Local, being within the city of Boston; 2) the state of Massachusetts; 3) All others. Architectural/firms will be considered local only if their sole office is in the geographical area or they have a local branch office, and all the design, coordination and management of the project will be accomplished in that office. It is prohibited to pay any fee, commission, percentage or brokerage fee to any person or firm contingent upon, or resulting from award of a contract.
