COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF MARCH 20,1998 PSA#20561998 VEHICLE TECHNOLOGIES CONFERENCE,DEARBORN, MICHIGAN, MAY 4-6, 1998
1998 Vehicle Technologies Conference, May 4 -- 6, 1998, The
Ritz-Carlton Hotel, Dearborn, Michigan. This year's theme is " Dual
Needs -- Dual Use in a Collaborative Environment". Investments in
science and technology are critical to military preparedness. The
President's Technology Policy for economic growth encourages cost
shared, dual use-dual need research and development partnerships
between government, industry, and academia. This collaboration enables
the Army's National Automotive Center (NAC) to infuse the latest
commercial technology into the current and future fleets of military
ground vehicles. This conference will focus on the technology needs of
the Army and NAC's on-going initiatives for leveraging dual use
research and development. The NAC will highlight four major thrust
areas, its technology infusion process, and explore technical transfer
and joint development opportunities available to industry. The Welcome
Address will be given by Major General Roy E. Beauchamp, Commanding
General, US Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM). The
Keynote Address will be given by Dr. A. Fenner Milton, Deputy Assistant
Secretary or the Army for Research and Technology. Brigadier General
Joseph L. Yakovac, Deputy for Systems Acquisition, TACOM will discuss
Vehicle Modernization and Mr. Dennis Wend, Director, NAC will present
