Berta Hollenberger, Contract Specialist, - The Panama Canal Commission, Contracting Division, is interested in finding potential sources of supply to purchase two replacement motors for the Dredge Christensen main hoist and luffing. The diper dredge and all components were built in Japan by the Hakodate Dock Co. It is desired that the proposed motors be commercial items, off-the-shelf, readily available and that they require minimum modifications to match the original ones. General Description: The main hoisting and luffing motors are controlled by the Ward-Leonard method using two 600 KW DC generators directly coupled to Fuji Diesel 6XL32 engines. The system is designed to work with either generator at the same time, or both generators connected in series (the latter is the most used configuration). The operating characteristics of the existing motors are: 550 KW power, 750 volts maximum, 2600 Amps maximum, and a maximum speed of 800 RPM. The following information is available on request: (1) electrical diagrams; (2) characteristics of the existing main hoisting DC motors and of the main hoisting and boom luffing winch; and (3) drawings describing the motor and winch arrangement on board the dredge.
