Executive Blvd, EPS/Room 638, Bethesda, MD 20892-7227 66 -- ELECTROPHYSIOLOGY/IMAGING STATION SOL RFQ80104-NS DUE 033098 POC
Patricia Haun, Contracting Officer (301) 496-8613 The National
Institutes of Health (NIH), National Cancer Institute (NCI), Laboratory
of Adaptive Systems (LAS) plans to procure on a sole source basis,
under authority of FAR 6.302-1, an Electrophysiology/Imaging Station
for an inverted microscope from Olympus America, Inc., 2 Corporate
Center Dr., Melville, NY 11747. The LAS is involved in an integral
study of the molecular and cellular basis of associative memory. The
project's focus is on the determination of the nature of memory traces,
the discovery of molecular/cellular mechanisms related to memory
formation, and Alzheimer's disease specific defects. To accomplish the
study, an imaging system and related attachments are required. The
imaging system shall be 100% matching and compatible to the existing
Olympus inverted microscope. The system shall have the capability of
synchronized (on-line) recording and monitoring of membrane
electrophysiological responses and ion imaging. The imaging station
shall provide full support for viewing and pointing to minute areas of
objects with a pointing device (i.e., a computer mouse) and performing
ion ratio analysis. The station shall allow the user to construct three
dimensional structures and to transfer images directly into standard
word processing, drawing, and paint programs at specified resolutions
of 300 dpi, and it shall have a continuously adjustable wavelength of
300 to 800 mm and slit control. The compatibility issues with the
existing microscope and the ability to perform synchronized on- line
recordings of both electrophysiology and imaging make Olympus America,
Inc. the only known responsible source and no other systems will
satisfy the requirement. This notice of intent is not a request for
competitive proposals. However, all responsible parties that believe
they can meet the above requirements may submit capability statements.
Information furnished shall include enough material, in sufficient
detail, to all the NCI researcher to perform a proper evaluation of
performance capability. All capability statements received within 15
days of the publication of this synopsis will be considered by the
Government. (0075) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0303 19980318\66-0017.SOL)
