A -- ATMOSPHERIC CHEMISTRY MODELING AND ANALYSIS SOL NRA-98-OES-04 DUE 061998 POC Dr. Jake A. Kaye, ACMAP Manager/SAGE II Program Scientist, Phone (202) 358-0757, Fax (202) 358-2770, Email Jake.Kaye@hq.nasa.gov WEB: Click here for the latest information about this notice, http://nais.nasa.gov/EPS/HQ/date.html#NRA-98-OES-04. E-MAIL: Dr. Jake A. Kaye, Jake.Kaye@hq.nasa.gov. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) intends to solicit research proposals for science investigations to be carried out as part of the Atmospheric Chemistry Modeling and Analysis Program (ACMAP) of the Science Division of NASA's Office of Earth Science. Proposals for membership in a newly reconstituted science team for Stratospheric Aerosol and Gas Experiment (SAGE II) satellite instrument are also solicited with this announcement. ACMAP supports research in computational modeling and data analysis for studies on the trace constituent distributions of the troposphere and stratosphere, as well as dynamical properties of the stratosphere, emphasizing large regional and global scales. Component parts of ACMAP include (1) Stratospheric Dynamics and Related Data Analysis: (2) Atmospheric Chemistry Data Analysis; (3) Aerosols, Stratospheric Clouds, and Radiation; (4) Multi-Dimensional Atmospheric Modeling. New proposals, as well as renewal proposals for expiring tasks, are desired for allof these areas, although the areas most likely to receive increased funding in response to this solicitation are (1) the use of atmospheric models to study the biogeochemical cycles of chemically- and radiatively-active trace constituents in the global troposphere-stratosphere system and (2) the study of dynamical, radiative, and chemical processes that couple the troposphere and the stratosphere. The SAGE science team will support activities in seven areas: (1) validation, including limited field observations to be done specifically for the purpose of validating data products obtained by SAGE; (2) trend studies, including comparison with existing ground-based networks; (3) algorithm improvement; (4) tropospheric aerosol studies; (5)water vapor studies; (6) nitrogen dioxide studies; (7) cloud studies; and (8) atmospheric transport studies. This solicitation is open to all categories of organizations, foreign and domestic. A copy of this solicitation is available over the Internet via the Earth Science Enterprise Home Page at http://www.hq.nasa.gov/office/mtpe under MTPE Research Announcements or via anonymous ftp at ftp.hq.nasa.gov/pub/mtpe. Paper copies of the NRA will be available to those who do not have access to the Internet by calling (202) 358-3552 and leaving a voice mail message, including full name and address, including zip code, and telephone number, including area code. This announcement will be open for the period from March 20, 1998 through June 19, 1998 and proposals may be submitted at any time throughout that period. Letters of intent are requested but not required; such letters should be submitted by April 24, 1998. SPONSOR: NASA Headquarters, Code YS, Washington, DC 20546 Attn: Dr. Jack A.
