COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF MARCH 4,1998 PSA#2044US COAST GUARD NATIONAL DISTRESS SYSTEM MODERNIZATION PROJECT (NDSMP)
SITE VISIT The US Coast Guard (USCG), as an adjunct to the Industry
One-on-One Meetings held from August to October 97, is making available
for viewing to interested parties examples of the current command and
control facilities involved in its National Distress System
Modernization Project (NDSMP). A Site Visit will be conducted at the US
Coast Guard Yard in Curtis Bay, Maryland on Day One (1) and at US Coast
Guard Telecommunications and Information Systems Command (TISCOM)
Alexandria, Virginia on Day Two (2). This a one time organized Site
Visit and it will be conducted only on two (2) consecutive days, 7&8
April 98. Site Visit details (agenda, general information and
directions) will be posted to the CG's Research and Development
Center's (R&DC) Internet site on or about 6 March 98 at:
http://comms.rdc.uscg.mil/NDSmod/NDS.html. This is a major system
acquisition project to modernize the current VHF-FM-based NDS. The
existing NDS enables the CG to monitor the international VHF-FM
distress frequency (CH16), coordinate search and rescue operations,
communicate with commercial and recreational vessels, and provide
command and control for CG units performing missions in coastal and
inland waterways. Newly interested firms are encouraged to download and
read the project documents already posted on the Internet. To
participate in the Site Visit each firm must submit some general
information to Elois Evans, Contract Specialist by COB 20 Mar 98 by
electronic mail to: eevans@comdt.uscg.mil (preferred), by telefax to
202.267.4475/Attn: Elois Evans, or by first class mail addressed to
Commandant (G-ACS-5/ee/nds), US Coast Guard Headquarters, 2100 Second
Street, SW, Washington, DC 20593-0001. Please use only one of the three
options stated above to submit the following information: (1) List of
attendees (limit is 3 persons per firm), (2) name of individual serving
as POC with complete mailing address, telephone and telefax numbers and
electronic mail address. A timely response is essential for the CG to
effectively plan and execute a meaningful tour. The CG reserves the
right to further reduce the number of attendees from three (3) to two
(2), if necessary in order to streamline the Site Visit. THIS
ANNOUNCEMENT IS NOT A REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL (RFP) AND IN NO WAY COMMITS
