EXPERIMENTS AND TESTS SOL N02-BC-81127 (Mod 1) DUE 041598 POC Barbara
A. Shadrick, Contracting Officer, 301/435-3787 E-MAIL: Barbara A.
Shadrick, bs92y@nih.gov. The National Cancer Institute, Division of
Basic Sciences, Laboratory of Tumor Cell Biology, intends to negotiate
a modification for additional effort and funds to an existing contract
(N02- BC-81127) with Advanced BioScience Laboratories, Inc. This
contract provides a facility for housing non-human primates and other
standard laboratory animals under appropriate animal biosafety level 2
(BL2) conditions with animal biosafety level (BL-3) practices and
procedures. This is a follow-up to a previous study performed in the
same facility. The study contemplates handling a total of 24 non-human
primates (drug treatment) every day for a period of six months. This
experiment is designed as a proof of concept for a human therapeutic
trial and therefore will require high standard of care for the animals.
Sterile procedures and the appropriate environment are needed. In
addition, it is important that the standard of care in the study be
identical to the previous study performed in the same facility because
this new study is an extension of the old one and reproduction is a
key factor. Virological assays (NASBA) has been developed and it is
essential that the same array be used in this project. Technical and
veterinary assistance for all routine procedures such as inoculations
and bleedings and for performance of surgical procedures and postmortem
examinations are also to be provided. In addition to work associated
with the care and maintenance of the animals, the contractor shall
provide virological support services for experiments carried out using
animals in this study. These include virological assays in appropriate
BL2/BL3 laboratories to study virus load following inoculation with
virus, antiviral therapy and immunization. Clinical laboratory support
services are to be provided and surgical procedures and complete
postmortem exams, including histological examination of tissues, are to
be carried out on study animals, as required. Authority for this action
is 41 USC 253(c)(1), as set forth in FAR 6.302-1(a)(2)(ii). (See
Numbered Note 22). All responses to this notice must be submitted in
writing by mail or fax (301-480-0241). Collect calls will not be
accepted. (0061) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0019 19980304\B-0009.SOL)
