Radiation Epidemiology Branch (REB) of the Division of Cancer Etiology
(DCE) of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) of the National Institutes
of Health (NIH), intends to negotiate a three-year follow-on contract
with the Radiation Effects Research Foundation, Hiroshima, Japan, to
evaluate cancer mortality associated with occupational and
environmental radiation exposure. The follow-on study will include
approximately 19,000 Mayak workers, 45,000 children born in the towns
surrounding the Mayak plant and 28,000 individuals living close to the
banks of the Techa River in Russia. The statutory authority for this
noncompetitive acquisition is 41 USC 253(c) (1) as set forth in FAR
