POC Shari Pricer, 919-541-2198 E-MAIL: Click here to email the contact
person., pricer.shari@epamail.epa.gov. The U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency's National Exposure Research Laboratory located at
Research Triangle Park, NC (NERL/RTP) is issuing a "Request for
Assistance" (RFA). The objective of this RFA is to encourage innovative
research approaches to reducing uncertainty in the area of mathematical
modeling of human exposure. Specifically, this RFA solicits proposals
for cooperative research to represent total human exposure and
source-to-dose relationships through development of mathematical models
and databases which operate in a multimedia environment capable of
representing these relationships at spatial scales ranging from
geographic regions to personal and residential microenvironments.
Applications that respond to this RFA may be submitted by
not-for-profit research institutions such as universities, federal
research laboratories, and nonprofit research institutes. The research
objectives for this RFA support the long-term research priorities of
EPA's Office of Research and Development (ORD). ORD has identified
research to strengthen the scientific foundation for human health risk
assessment as one of its six high priority areas. The funding
mechanism that will be used to support research under this RFA is the
cooperative assistance agreement. The selection of this research
mechanism reflects ORD's decision to sustain joint scientific
collaboration in the design, conduct, and interpretation of research
supported under this agreement through the expertise of principal
investigators from both the recipient organization and ORD's National
Exposure Research Laboratory (NERL). ORD may elect to fund one, or more
than one, cooperative research agreement from applications that respond
to this solicitation. The anticipated duration of the cooperative
research agreement(s) is five years. The anticipated funding rate for
the cooperative agreement(s) will be approximately $500,000 per year
for total (direct plus indirect) costs of $ 2.5 million. In response to
electronic or written requests, NERL/RTP will mail out a solicitation
package on or after March 16, 1998 which will describe the requirements
of the RFA. Electronic requests should be e-mailed to "pricer.shari@
epamail.epa.gov". Written requests may be mailed to the U.S.
