Laboratory (NRL) has a requirement for a Solid Freeform
Fabrication/Rapid Prototyping System for Ceramics and Metals. This
system shall be capable of producing green (unfired) near net shape
preforms of ceramic and metal powders from tape precursors (ceramic and
metal powders combined with organic binders in tape form) by a
laminated object manufacturing process. System is to include two
Pentium II workstations, AutoCAD software to generate STL files, and
software which takes. STL files as input and generates motion control
commands, including facet smoothing, beam offset, and beam tilting.
System must be capable of producing green preforms as large as 32" in
length, 22" in width, and 20" in height and weighing as much as 450
lbs, with green part tolerances of 0.003". The system shall include
subsystems for laser/optical tape cutting, motion control, tape feed,
and lamination. The successful offeror will also be expected to provide
various system materials in tape form. Installation and training in the
operation of the equipment at the Naval Research Laboratory will also
be required. Numbered Note 26 applies. NRL uses Electronic Commerce
