COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF FEBRUARY 12,1998 PSA#2031Tennessee Valley Authority, Procurement, 1101 Market Street,
Chattanooga, TN 37402 K -- LOW NOX BURNER MODIFICATIONS DUE 022498 POC Jacqueline H. Smith,
Mechanical Engineer, (423) 751-8691 Unit 1 Low NOx Modifications:
Project Overview: The Clean Air Act Ammendments (CAAA) of 1990 requires
the reduction of NOx emissions at TVA's fossil plants. The existing
burner system does not meet the NOx emission limit for Phase II Group
I units. This project is intended to provide the modifications
necessary to support TVA's NOx averaging plan for meeting the CAAA NOx
emissions limits by reducing the NOx emissions from the baseline rate
of 0.7 lb/MMBTU to approximately 0.5 lb/MMBTU (30-50%). Widows Creek
Fossil (WCF) Unit 1 is a B&W wall-fired radiant heat boiler with a peak
load rating of 140 MW gross. Additional specifications available later.
Project Goal: The goal of the low NOx modifications on Unit 1 is to
incorporate commercially available technology to achieve the targeted
NOx reduction that is more cost effective than typical large scale low
NOx options being installed or considered for other larger TVA units.
If the modifications are successful, similar modifications may be
applied to WCF Units 2 through 6 or at other small TVA units. Scope of
Work: The scope of work involves engineering design and materials for
modifications to the existing burners in lieu of complete burner
replacement. The burner modifications may include but are not limited
to, the addition of flame stabilizers, a secondary air sleeve with
manual damper control, and an adjustable shroud around the air register
to control the air flow to each burner. (0041) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0071 19980212\K-0001.SOL)
