to the notice posted January 29, 1998. The Government has a
requirement for a vessel, Master, and crew to support the Marine Mammal
Surveys of the eastern tropical Pacific. The contract will consist of
aproximately 135 calendar days (120 days underway and 15 days in port).
The cruise will begin o/a July 28, 1998 and end o/a December 6, 1998 in
San Diego, CA. The vessel will be required to conduct 4 legs of 30 days
each in the eastern tropical Pacific study area. In addition, 5 day
port calls in Hilo, Hawaii, Puerto Caldera, Costa Rica and Guayaquil,
Ecuador. The ship will be operating on the eastern tropical Pacific,
between 35 degrees North and 15 degrees South latitude and 80 degrees
to 160 degrees West longitude. The track lines will include transiting
the waters near Hawaii, Galapagos Islands, Costa Rica, Mexico and
Ecuador. The vessel shall be an ocean-going fisheries or oceanographic
research vessel in full compliance with all applicable laws,
regulating, and other requirements of the nation of registry. Vessel
requirements include CTD casts with water sampling to depths of 1,000m
(3,280 ft), minimum length of 175 ft., minimum cruising speed of 11
knots (20.3 km/hr), minimum endurance of 30 days at 11 knots and
8,000nm (14,816 km), maintain steerage of 1.0 kt in calm water for
accomplishing CTD casts, noise level below the International Council
for Exploration of the Sea (ICES) curve for marine mammal hearing. A
preferred vessel will be similar to the U.S. Navy T-AGOS ship in
configuration and noise level, one-compartment standard of stability
and subdivision, capable of performing effective mission CTD operations
through sea state 7 at the sustained steerage to hold a constant
position, berthing for a scientific complement of a minimum of 10
scientific personnel, minimum 29 ft. Height of flying bridge deck above
