COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF FEBRUARY 2,1998 PSA#2023STAKEHOLDER ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING FOR THE ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNOLOGY
VERIFICATION PILOT FOR ADVANCED MONITORING SYSTEMS The National
Exposure Research Laboratory (NERL), Office of Research and Development
(ORD), U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA), Research Triangle
Park (RTP), North Carolina, and Battelle, Columbus, OH, are partners on
an Environmental Technology Verification (ETV) pilot for Advanced
Monitoring Systems (AMS). The AMS pilot is designed to systematically
verify commercially available technologies that are used to monitor
air, water, and soil. The pilot's objective is to accelerate the
acceptance and use of promising, innovative technologies and to provide
objective performance data to potential technology purchasers and
regulators. Battelle has established stakeholder advisory committees
(SACs) for air and water monitoring technologies. A SAC for soil
monitoring technologies will be formed at a later date. The SACs are
comprised of 25-30 representatives from the following groups or
organizations: U.S. EPA, other federal agencies, state and regional
agencies, the regulated communities, technology users, industries,
associations representing the regulated community, financial investment
groups, research institutions, environmental groups, and other
interested organizations. It is anticipated that stakeholders will
provide critical advice from various perspectives on implementing the
verification process through the duration of the AMS pilot. The air and
water stakeholder advisory committees will convene for the first time
on February 24-25, 1998, at Battelle, 505 King Avenue, Columbus, Ohio
43201. The meeting will start at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 24, and
end at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 25. During this meeting, the
stakeholders will assist Battelle in identifying environmental
monitoring technology needs; discuss a draft Request for Technologies
(RFT); and identify criteria that will be used to evaluate RFT
responses. The meeting is open to the public but space is limited. If
you are interested in attending or would like more information about
the AMS pilot, contact Ms. Helen C. Latham, Battelle, 505 King Ave.,
