none. The National Institute of Environment Health Sciences (NIEHS)
located in Research Triangle Park, NC is seeking (8(a) firms capable of
providing Animal Husbandry Support Services on site at the National
Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. Firms are requested to
submit capability statements that illustrate their management expertise
and capability to provide care and maintenance for laboratory animals,
seven (7) days per week including weekends and holidays for a 55,000
square foot laboratory animal facility with a daily inventory of 25,000
animals. This includes feeding and watering animals; observing health
and condition of animals; sanitation and cleaning of cages and rooms;
animal health surveillance; identifying animals by performing ear
punch, tail tattoos or microchip implantation's as directed. Administer
routine treatments to animals when prescribed by Veterinary Staff, and
maintenance of animal room equipment and supplies. Order, receive,
inspect and inventory deliveries of feed, bedding, equipment and
supplies. Receive, inspect, and within a 25-mile radius of NIEHS
deliver shipments of incoming and in-house animals. Operate and monitor
performance of autoclaves, cage washers, rack washers, bottle washers
and bottle fillers, clothes washers and dryers, vacuum cleaners and
floor scrubbers. Provide housekeeping to entire animal facility and
support areas. Establish pedigreed rodent breeding colonies, performing
complicated surgical techniques, and diagnostic evaluation of
laboratory animals in support of research programs and objectives.
Responsible for the breeding, perpetuation, and possible expansion of
the various strains of research colony rodents. Evaluate the
reproductive efficiency of all in-house rodent breeding colonies
including transgenic colonies. Identify reproductive problems and make
recommendations for improvement. Prepare working protocols for each
breeding colony. Assist with the preparation of standard operating
procedures regarding animal husbandry, animal care, and rodent
breeding. Perform veterinary tasks such as clinical, preventive,
diagnostic and therapeutic animal health measures, week-end and holiday
coverage included. Perform the data management of animal inventory,
cost accounting, and the animal study proposals using the GCS animal
facility management software. Performs necropsies, including sentinel
animals, record all lesions observed on Animal Health Report. Perform
sample collection (urine, feces, tissues, whole blood and/or blood
products, parasites, microbiological cultures) fixation and/or freezing
