CUNIC.LINDA@FORUM.VA.GOV. The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA)
Medical Center, Battle Creek, Michigan is seeking potential sources for
sharing agreements to utilize space for programs that include, but are
not limited to, services that are similar to or will compliment health
care services provided by Veterans Health Administration. Two two-story
masonry structures consisting of 14,000 and 19,000 available square
feet and one four story masonry structure consisting of 76,000
available square feet are available on the Medical Center grounds. The
Medical Center is a 30 building complex situated on 206 acres and
provides comprehensive psychiatric care, primary and secondary medical
care, extenKded and long-term care to veterans. Battle Creek is a
growing, energetic city situated in southwestern Michigan, midway
between Detroit and Chicago. More than 100,000 residents live in the
metropolitan community, an area rich in resources, with an aggressive
attitude for attracting new businesses and supporting firms already
establishedhere. Our community embraces inclusion and diversity. Our
cost of living is comfortably below the national average, with plenty
of housing opportunities in newly constructed or revitalized historic
neighborhoods. Battle Creek's strong, diversified economy is expected
to continue growing at a more rapid rate than elsewhere across the
nation. We are one of the few communities in the entire country
demonstrating expansion and revitalization of our central business
district and significant improvements in infrastructure and quality of
life. Battle Creek's high school graduates rank above the national
average on graduation rates and college board scores, and
post-secondary educational opportunities abound in the area. Kellogg
Community College, Western Michigan University, Davenport College,
Spring Arbor College, and more are all conveniently located within the
City. Battle Creek is the home of Kellogg's National Headquarters and
Tony the Tiger, Post Cereals and Ralston Purina. Located within a few
miles of the Medical Center is Foreign Trade Zone 43-Port of Battle
Creek. Recreational activities such as bowling, golfing, and tennis
abound. A Michigan State Park; the Fort Custer Recreational Area
consists of 3,000 acres for various recreational activities open to the
public. The area offers many cultural, entertainment, and shopping
opportunities, plus Lake Michigan is just a short drive away. Nearby is
the Kellogg Bird Sanctuary and the Kellogg Experimental Forrest. Few
Midwestern cities can match Battle Creek for its love of community
gatherings such as the National and International Balloon Festivals,
the Cereal Festival, the World Longest Breakfast Table, the
International Festival of Lights, and free indoor and outdoor concerts.
Interested parties should forward a description of the proposed use of
the building(s) and a description of your organization to Katherine
