COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF JANUARY 30,1998 PSA#2022SMALL MODULAR BIOPOWER SYSTEM DEVELOPMENT On or about Feb 15, 1998,
Sandia National Laboratories intends to release a request for quotation
for Small Modular Biopower System development. This activity is
sponsored by the Department of Energy's Office of Solar Thermal,
Biomass Power, and Hydrogen Technologies. This procurement is jointly
funded by Sandia and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and
comprises the first step in what will be a larger development process.
The objective of this project is to develop a number of small, modular
biopower systems that are fuel-flexible, efficient, simple to operate,
whose operation has minimum negative impacts on the environment, and
which will provide power in the range of electrical generation sizes of
5 kW to 5 MW for domestic and international markets. The development of
these systems will be cost-shared between DOE and U. S. industry. This
procurement, the first step in the process, is undertaken to evaluate
the feasibility of developing cost-effective technologies and the
markets for small, modular biopower systems. We believe that these
systems have distinct advantages accruing from the modularity of the
systems and their potential for requiring a minimum of field
engineering and having simple connections at customer sites. For
