The Naval Air System Command intends to issue a cost plus contract to McDonnell Douglas Corporation (MDC) for the integration, development, procurement, and demonstration of a flightworthy pre-production MIDS compatible Transponder into the F/A-18 C/D and E/F aircraft weapon systems. As the sole designer, developer and manufacturer of the F/A-18 C/D and E/F aircraft weapon systems, only MDA has the requisite knowledge, experience, and technical data required to successfully complete the integration without causing unacceptable delays in meeting the Navy's operational requirements and without substantial duplication of cost to the Government. Furthermore, only MDA has the F/A-18 peculiar engineering data and expertise, facilities, and test equipment to provide the Government's minimum needs in a timely manner. Synopsis Number 20066-98.
