notice is being issued by Westinghouse Savannah River Company (WSRC),
management and operating contractor for the U.S. Department of Energy's
Savannah River Site (SRS) near Aiken, South Carolina. The purpose of
this notice is to determine public interest in partnering with the SRS
to further develop a technology called the Cancerlight Device. This
partnering may be in the form of a license, a Cooperative Research and
Development Agreement, a joint proposal for government-sponsored
funding opportunities, or other appropriate arrangements. Developed at
the SRS, this invention provides a novel means of identifying residual
malignant tissue for a surgeon during cancer surgery, allowing for the
immediate removal of this tissue. This technology will require
additional funding, as well as appropriate facilities and medical
expertise in order to advance it to the prototype stage. Respondents
will be provided with a technical brief and instructions for preparing
and submitting a plan for pursuing technology development. Responses
to this notice must be received by February 16, 1998. Technology
development plans must be submitted no later than March 15, 1998.
