06006-0300 is prequalifying general construction contractors to build
a new USPS owned Vehicle Maintenance Facility in Boston, MA. The work
will be completed in the following three stages: 1) Construction of a
new 27,000 sq ft Vehicle Maintenance Facility with an estimated cost
of $4.5 million dollars; 2) Demolition of the existing 200,000 sq ft
Vehicle Maintenance Facility; and 3) Perform minor site work, paving,
and restriping of the existing parking lot with an estimated cost of
$700,000.00. To be considered for this prequalification process, a
construction firm must have been in business for at least five (5)
years and must have successfully completed at least three (3) buildings
of a similar size, cost and complexity, within the same time period.
Contractors will be evaluated by a committee of USPS Architects and
Engineers and rated on the following factors in descending order: 1)
project management; 2)prior construction experience; 3) financial
capability; 4) company organization; and 5) quality assurance/quality
control program. A full explanation of each of these categories can be
found in the prequalification package. Requests for prequalification
packages MUST BE MADE IN WRITING to Marion Riley at the Windsor
Facilities Service Office, 6 Griffin Road North, Windsor, CT
06006-0300. Telephone requests WILL NOT BE HONORED. There is no charge
for this prequalification package. Completed packages are due back to
the Windsor Facilities Service Office no later than Friday, February
27, 1998, no later than 4:00 p.m. Contractors will be notified of their
prequalification status by Friday, March 20, 1998. It is anticipated
that plans and specifications will be sent to the prequalified
contractors by Friday, April 3, 1998 and construction proposals will be
due no later than Friday, May 1, 1998. Questions regarding the project
