66 -- AKTA EXPLORER SYSTEM/LIQUID CHROMATOGRAPHY SYSTEM SOL RFQ-80059-NV DUE 021098 POC Debbie Moore, Purchasing Agent, 301/402-4509, Trish Haun, Contracting Officer, 301/402-4509 The National Cancer Institute intends to enter into an agreement with Pharmacia Biotech, Inc., P.O. Box 18191, Newark, NJ 07191under the authority of 41. U.S.C.253(c)(1), FAR 6.302-1 to procure an AKTA Explorer System/Liquid Chromatography System. The requirements for this system are as follows. Ability to purifiy biomolecules from complex starting materials derived from cell lawsuits, tissue homeogenates, recombinant protein expression system and other sources. The system shall provide very high resolution pumps that can withstand pressures up to 1500psi and a 2 wavelength UV monitor. The system shall have automated reverse-flow capability for elution of samples from affinity columns as well as for the cleaning columns. The capability to accommodate up to seven columns at one time which may be selected automatically. Due to space constraints it is required that the valves be electrically driven rather than gas activated which need an air tank. Finally the system needs to be a two-pump gradient system,with dynamic mixing, evidence suggest that this configuration produces the highest accuracy and precision in gradient formation. It is the Governments belief that the above requirements can only be met by Pharmacia Biotech Inc. This is a notice of intent, not a request for competitive proposals.
