X623 SOURCES SOUGHT -- IMPROVED LIMPET MINE (ILM) -- The Improved
Limpet Mine (ILM) Program is a United States Special Operations Command
(USSOCOM) sponsored program managed by the Program Executive Office for
Carriers, Littoral Warfare & Auxiliary Ships (PEO CLA) Support Ships,
Boats and Craft Program. The ILM Program is seeking sources relating to
possible commercially available technology that can be used to improve
the current MK 4 and MK 5 series of Limpet Mines. The ILM is required
for SEAL Delivery Vehicle (SDV) attacks against ships, submarines,
nested patrol craft, submerged harbor facilities, and various other
maritime targets. The ILM should provide for greater explosive force to
be delivered to the target, decrease time-on-target by improved
handling procedures, and result in an enhanced probability of success.
The candidate system will be required to pass the Insensitive Munition
and Safety requirements of MIL-STD-2105B and be certified to be carried
aboard U.S. Navy ships and submarines without extensive modification as
determined by the USN Weapon System Explosive Safety Review Board.
