The US Army, Communications-Electronics Command in conjunction with RDEC, Intelligence and Information Warfare Directorate (I2WD) are seeking sources to ascertain the availability of Mobile X-ray systems with the ability to (1) capture Compton scattered X-ray photons that are scattered X-ray photons, (2) display dual imagining capability for materials of low atomic numbers (Low Z) and (3) operate at a level of exposure less than .5mR per hour at 2 from the cabinet. In the opinion of the Government, American Science and Engineering has been the only responsible source with a unique and innovative concept. AS&E maintains proprietary information and all technical and patent rights for the Mobile X-ray systems on the present Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract awarded on 6 Jul 96 for a period of 48 months to satisfy Government requirement. AS&E 's patented Backscatter technology is designed to enhance 101-Z Vans for the purposes of the U.S. Customs and the FBI.By authority of FAR 6.302-1 and the required justification and approval the requirement will be contained in the order or orders placed against contract DAAB10-95-D-R050. The purpose of this publication is to broaden industry participation in meeting Government future requirements of the Government implementing the President's Anti-Terrorism Legislation and the National Counterdrug Program. Those companies who feel that they can deliver such a system should express their interest by submitting sufficient documentation explaining their system and their production capability. This documentation should be mailed to US Army CECOM RDEC IEW Directorate, Fort Monmouth, New Jersey 07703-5000.
