The requirements are as follows: 13-18 oz/sq yd (or less) weight, less than 20 dollars/yd cost, 320 lb break strength, 20 lb tear strength, 0 mL water absorption, less than 32 hrs chemical resistant, more than 2 sec after-flame burn, more than 50 percent char length, less than 250 lb seam strength. Of primary interest are fibers with high tenacity per unit weight, composite fabrics which meet the above requirements, and laminates, films, or coatings with appropriate barrier properties.
