issues a Request For Information (RFI) document via the internet. This
document is for information and planning purposes and to allow
industry the opportunity to verify reasonableness and feasibility of
the requirement, as well as to promote competition. Prospective
respondents are invited to sumbit comments or questions to: Ms. Mary S.
Di Joseph, no later than January 12, 1998. In responding reference
RFI-217-237-01. THE RFI DOCUMENT IS NOT A REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL (RFP)
DOCUMENT, THEREFORE, PLEASE DO NOT SEND A PROPOSAL. The intent of the
RFI document is to survey industry's ability to develop the Gamma Ray
Large Area Space Telescope (GLAST) Spacecraft and to support the
spacecraft's launch and activation. The GLAST mission is a follow-on to
the EGRET (Energetic Gamma Ray Experiment Telescope) on the Compton
Gamma Ray Observatory (CGRO). GLAST is a high-energy, gamma ray
observatory designed to observe celestial gamma ray sources in the
approximate energy range 0.01 to greater than 300GeV. The GLAST launch
date is planned for mid-2004. Comments may be forwarded to Ms. Di
Joseph via electronic transmission or by facsimile transmission. This
synopsis is not to be construed as a commitment by the Government, nor
will the Government pay for the information solicited. Respondents
will not be notified of the results of the review. Any questions
regarding this announcement should be directed to the identified point
of contact. A secondary point of contact is provided, if Ms. Di Joseph
is not available. An ombudsman has been appointed -- See Internet Note
"B". The RFI and any related documents are available over the
Internet. These documents are in Microsoft Office Suite (Word 6.0,
Excel 5.0, or PowerPoint 4.0) format and reside on a World Wide Web
(WWW) server, which may be accessed using a WWW browser application.
