Augustyn, 312-751-7130 The U.S. Railroad Retirement Board intends to select a Medicare carrier for the administration of its Part B program. This procurement shall be conducted under the authority of Title 18 of the Social Security Act, as amended. The services to be performed include the processing of Medicare medical insurance claims from qualified Railroad Retirement Beneficiaries in the United States and Canada in accordance with the Social Security Act. The successful offeror will be required to furnish the full range of Medicare Part B carrier services over the 0-60 month operational term of the contract beginning October 1, 1998. In addition the successful offeror must assume all work in progress -- pending claims and all carrier post-payment activities -- beginning with the operational term of the contract. In order to be considered for award, an offeror must currently be a health iunsuring organization defined as follows: an organization or entity which is lawfully engaged as an insurer in paying for, or reimbursing the cost of, health services in consideration of premiums or other periodic charges payable to the organization or entity.
