The US Army TACOM-ARDEC, Picatinny Arsenal seeks sources for the production of 1,500 two piece aluminum castings to support the fabrication of the XM97 Wide Area Munition (WAM) Collective Training Device. The Collective Trainer is a totally inert training device which will be used to "train" personnel in a collective environment on all the operations required to properly arm, emplace, and deploy the tactical Hand Emplaced Wide Area Munition (HE-WAM), XM93. All switches, levers, knobs, buttons, handles, tabs, etc. which are required for setting, arming, and deploying the tactical HE-WAM shall be present, physically (mechanically only) operational, and resettable. "Lights" shall be present but not functional. All external colors, dimensions, weight, center of gravity, and materials of the Collective Trainer shall be representative of the Tactical HE-WAM. The dimensions for the two roughly octagonal shaped castings are 2.2 x 7.6 x 7.4 inches for the cast closure and 7.4 x 7.4 x 10.4 inches for the Collective Trainer body. The castings require machining to accommodate switches, lights, antennas, handling band, foam cover, dummy battery, and battery cover. Drawings are available for review. The castings require two molds for fabrication and various machining stations to machine the features to house the parts described above. The foam cover and a Handling Band are to be removed and replaced from the Collective Trainer closure casting thousands of times in various environments at different test sites. One sample will be delivered to TACOM-ARDEC for review and approval prior to production. This is currently planned as a one time buy. The anticipated award date is GFY98 See Note 25 and 26. (0344)
