The Department of Energy (DOE), Albuquerque Operations Office (AL), has released a Request for Proposal (RFP) for the transport of contact-handled (CH) transuranic (TRU) waste from various Department of Energy sites in the United States to the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP), Carlsbad, New Mexico. The effort is to provide transportation services and to participate in emergency training exercises and public awareness demonstrations. To provide the transportation services, the Contractor must provide all necessary equipment including tractors, trailers, and shipping containers under privatization guidelines. Some equipment, however, will be provided as government furnished property. DOE intends to award a ten-year Fixed-Price Indefinite Quantity contract. A preproposal conference will be held in Albuquerque, NM on December 16, 1997, at the DOE Energy Training Center, Gibson and Maxwell Streets on Kirtland Air Force Base (West). The conference will be from 9:00 a.m. to approximately 3:00 p.m. The release date of the RFP is December 3, 1997, with an anticipated proposal due date of February 3, 1998. Best value methodology will be employed in evaluating the proposals. This acquisition is being made on an unrestricted basis.
