Research, Development and Engineering Center (ARDEC) is planning award
of a sole source contract for the development/improvement of a process
to fabricate explosively formed penetrator (EFP) warhead liners. ARDEC
intends to award to Textron Systems Corporation, Wilmington, MA. The
basis for the sole source is that Textron is the only known firm to use
hot isostaticly press (HIP) technology with powered tantalum, machine
it in accordance with their design software, which will result in an
explosively formed long rod penetrater. The ultimate intent of this
effort is to effectively transfer this process to non DOD producers to
provide uniform warheads in greater volume when required. Responses
shall be addressed to the above contract specialist at US Army
TACOM-ARDEC, AMSTA-AR-PC-E, Picatinny Arsenal, NJ 07806-5000 to be
received 15 calendar days from the date of this synopsis. See numbered
