HQ USCENTCOM has a requirement for equipment and installation of a new all copper class II lightning protection system (LPS) on BLdg. 540 at MacDill AFB. All cable to cable connections in the new system will be cad or thermite welded. After the new LPS is installed, the old LPS will be removed. Some existing copper rods under building 540 are connected to the roof via copper cables in a conduit system that was filled with tar as a part of the roofing process. This tar prevents visual inspection of the cables, rods, and bonds. The contractor must accept liability for this part of the system (EIS Engineering Report dated 6 Mar 97 indicates the initial system is good). This is a sole source procurement for Bolt Lightning Security as authorized by 10 U.S.C. 2304 (c) (1). This is a combined synopsis/solicitation for commercial items prepared in accordance with the format in Subpart 12.6, as supplemented with additional information included in this notice.
