COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY (CBD) Release Date: December 15, 1997 Comment
Due Date: January 9, 1998 DRAFT Announcement of Opportunity for the
Medium-class Explorer (MIDEX) Program. The National Aeronautics and
Space Administration (NASA), Office of Space Science (OSS), is
releasing for community review and comment a DRAFT Announcement of
Opportunity (AO) for the next missions in the Medium-class Explorer
(MIDEX) Program. Selections of proposals through the final AO, once
released, are intended to provide two mission launches by March 2004.
A Mission of Opportunity may also be selected. The science objectives
covered by the AO include those in the currently defined OSS science
themes of the Astronomical Search for Origins and Planetary Systems,
the Sun-Earth Connection, and the Structure and Evolution of the
Universe. Refer to the OSS World Wide Web homepage at
<http://www.hq.nasa.gov/office/oss/&gt; for further information
about these themes. Participation is open to all categories of
organizations, foreign and domestic, including industry, educational
institutions, nonprofit organization, NASA centers, and other
Government agencies. NASA welcomes critical review and comment of this
DRAFT AO and will be open from December 15, 1997, through January 9,
1998. Upon the release date, the full text of the AO and all appendices
will be available electronically via the Word Wide Web address given
above. Paper copies may be obtained by written request to Mr. John
